1. SDG16 The making of the US President

– Content: The course explores presidential elections from a historical perspective through five case studies. It narrates the story of significant campaigns in US history and investigates how politics has evolved over time, as well as how an understanding of the past casts light on current campaigns. From the emergence of “dirty politics” to the impact of the “digital revolution,” the course considers the historical context of several key phenomena that shaped the contentious 2016 campaign.

2. SDG16 Towards Scottish Independence: Understanding the Referendum

– Content: These videos are part of a three-week course in the lead-up to the 2014 Scottish independence referendum. The course aims to assist learners in engaging with the debate as it unfolds, contributing critically and constructively to the arguments of both sides and other learners, and benefiting from the insights of leading scholars.

3. SDG16 Democracy in Theory and Practice

– Content: Introduction to various democratic theories and tracing the development of modern mass democracy from ancient Greece to the present day. The course is aimed at adult learners and is taught at the undergraduate level.

4. SDG16 Edinburgh Open Research Conference 2022 (presentations & posters

Content: This is a collection of open-licensed presentations and posters from the Open Research Conference Edinburgh 2022. The university’s library research support team and the Edinburgh ReproducibiliTea and Edinburgh Open Research Initiative (EORI) grassroots organisations collaborated to launch the first Open Research Conference Edinburgh. The conference was held at the John McIntyre Conference Centre and online on 27th May 2022.

5. SDG16 Open for Good: OER at the University of Edinburgh

– Content: “Open for Good: OER” at the University of Edinburgh tells the story of five years of support for Open Educational Resources (OER) and open knowledge at the University of Edinburgh. This leaflet features a foreword by Dr Melissa Highton and includes information about our award-winning open policies, community engagement activities, and our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. It also contains case studies on student involvement and OER in the curriculum from across the University, alongside a timeline of significant events and developments in open education.
