On behalf of student families, Ms. Hoa extended gratitude to sponsors and supporters, encouraging students to continue striving and improving their academic results. She emphasized, “Youth are the pillars of the nation. You must set an example by studying diligently, working hard, cultivating discipline, and aspiring to contribute, thus enriching our nation.”
Ms. Truong My Hoa – Chairwoman of the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund, delivered the opening speech of the program
Over time, the Student Support Project has received sponsorship totaling over 27.4 billion VND from 47 philanthropists (11 individuals and 36 organizations), providing scholarships for 332 students (242 from ethnic minorities and 90 children of navy personnel, fishermen from coastal and island areas). Nguyen Tat Thanh University alone sponsored 116 full scholarships, waiving tuition fees entirely for all fields of study throughout their academic tenure at the university. As a collective member of the “For Hoang Sa – Truong Sa Beloved Club” since its inception, Nguyen Tat Thanh University has consistently supported the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund in fully funding tuition fees for students under the Fund’s Student Support projects and the Club’s initiatives. The university has also mobilized contributions to build two schools on Truong Sa Lon Island and Sinh Ton Island, sent delegations to visit military and civilian residents on the Truong Sa archipelago, and recently, commemorating the 10-year journey “For Beloved Truong Sa,” contributed a reading room in Truong Sa Town and to the Navy’s 146th Brigade, built a comrade’s house for officers and professional soldiers facing difficulties, and awarded 200 scholarships totaling 580 million VND to students in coastal and island regions.
“To spread love and share hardships with students who are the children of officers and soldiers at the forefront of protecting our national sovereignty, we will always strive to accompany the Fund and the Club in supporting and motivating these students in their future endeavors, providing them with opportunities to access knowledge and pursue their career dreams to build a bright future, thus contributing to the development of society,” said Nguyen Mai Lan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, at the event.
Ms. Nguyen Mai Lan – Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, spoke at the program.
Le Gia Phong – of Kinh ethnicity, a former student of Nam Viet Secondary School and High School under the “Nurturing Future Seeds” project, has achieved excellent student awards for many consecutive years. This year, as a new student of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Phong was deeply moved when sharing at the event: “I was born and raised on an island belonging to Nam Du commune, Kien Hai district, Kien Giang province. It’s a remote island with extremely difficult economic conditions, where people rely on fishing for their livelihoods. My family also faces daily hardships to make ends meet, dealing with challenges such as electricity, water, and weather. Now, sitting in the lecture halls of Nguyen Tat Thanh University, I feel truly fortunate and grateful to my second family, the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund. They have allowed me to pursue my dream of studying Medicine, which is my biggest aspiration.”
In the years 2021 and 2022, the Covid-19 pandemic significantly affected the economic and social life of the country. Many businesses had to downsize or suspend operations, and some had to rebuild from scratch. Despite these challenges, the compassion of businesses and philanthropists did not waver in the face of difficult circumstances for ethnic minority and island students. In response to the dedication of many students who continued to strive for high achievements, the results were impressive: 8 students achieved excellent grades, 49 students achieved good grades, 86 students achieved satisfactory grades, 2 students are currently interning in Japan and South Korea, and 3 students are studying abroad in Russia.
To timely recognize the students’ resilient spirit and high academic achievements with scores of 8.0 and above, the Fund selected and introduced 11 students to receive scholarships from the Hessen Ministry of Science and Arts and the World University Support Organization of Germany, including 6 students from Nguyen Tat Thanh University.
Summing up the academic year 2021-2022, the Student Support Project has 31 students who are currently working on their theses and preparing for university graduation. Among the graduates, Ma Thi Thuong, of the Tay ethnic group, studying Vietnamese Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in Hanoi, graduated with an excellent bachelor’s degree. Additionally, Dieu K Hung, from the S’Tieng ethnic group, who was introduced by the Fund to study abroad in Russia for 5 years, has now graduated with a good bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.
Ma Thi Thuong (who graduated with honors) and Dieu K Hung (who graduated with distinction) received commendations and rewards from the Scholarship Fund.
The “Student Support Project” scholarships aim not only to provide material support, helping students partially cover their educational expenses but also serve as a source of spiritual encouragement and sharing from sponsors for students who live far from home. These scholarships help students deepen their understanding of compassion and the timely extension of helping hands in times of difficulties and shortages. Beyond that, the hope is that these students will return in the future to become bridges, extending their arms to guide and support future generations.
